Rahim’s brother said on Tuesday he had been waiting for a bus to go to work when officers approached him.


“He was confronted by three Boston Police officers and subsequently shot in the back three times,” Ibrahim Rahim wrote on Facebook.


His brother had also called their father as a witness as police approached, Ibrahim Rahim added.


“His last words to my father who heard the shots were: I can’t breathe!” Rahim wrote.


Usaama Rahim was struck once in the torso and once in the abdomen, the AP reported. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.Police said video from the scene shows Rahim coming toward the officers as they’re backing away, the AP reported.


The Suffolk County district attorney’s office will investigate the fatal encounter, as is routine for officer-involved shootings in Boston.


Authorities have not said why Rahim was under surveillance, telling reporters only that he had extremist views and had been watched for “quite a time.”
